I'm 1980 Blitz, 40 Puzzle Rush, and have a high of 2907 in tactics. I'm also 1635 OTB lol. How about you guys? If you don't have OTB, state your chess.com blitz ratings along with your puzzle rush.

40 puzzle rush is absolutely outstanding! Try as I may, I never made it past 35. 2003 FIDE OTB.

I wonder how you do it.

Lots of sugar

When I try it I only get sugar rush... doesn't help me rise beyond 35 :-)

Pattern recognition. Combine it with playing bullet.

It must have something to do with bullet... but it's still a bit astonishing.

When you reach around 33, 34 points in Puzzle Rush, you start getting 2000-rated problems. They demand some time and calculation of variations. I really wonder how it's still possible to reach such a high score if you're not a really strong player yourself.

My only answer, is that you're certainly becoming one.

I'm 2200 but my highest score in puzzle rush is only 32. I make up for my mediocre tactical ability by being stronger in other areas.

My blitz rating is 890. My highest Puzzle Rush score is 20.

I am old and slow Puzzle Rush 19 although yesterday I should have beaten that handily but erred.  1099 in Blitz around 1300 in Rapid and 1450 in daily.  I am 700 or so in bullet but I don't play much.  I just cant move fast enough with the mouse.

<Vicariously-l> I would like to have a "sneak peek" into your mind, to see what are the qualities that make you 2200!

It's always been a mystery, how to break that "glass ceiling" that perceptibly exists just above 2000...

I am 2000+ in bullet and blitz , 2500+ tactics but only 30 in puzzle rush.

I cant do guessing in puzzle rushes. That style doesnt suit me.

Even in bullet, I calculate tactics, I dont guess ( I calculate only 3-4 critical positions in a bullet game though)

Well I feel that my strategic knowledge and positional understanding are on par with masters but my tactical ability/calculation is maybe 1800-2000 level.

200 rating points in blitz isn't always that significant though. Usually what sets the higher rated player apart is that they make quicker decisions and are less prone to blundering. Not all players of a certain rating range are the same though. I've seen 1600's that play like masters and 2000-2200 rated players that make very basic tactical and positional errors even when they have plenty of time on their clock. Your rating largely depends on who you play. For example if you only play in arena blitz tournaments then your rating might be as much as 400 points lower than if you only played against players in the regular blitz rating pool.

Interesting thoughts... even though I always feel that positional play / strategy is where I fall short. I feel it especially when I look at games together with 2100 / 2200 rated players... (I speak about official ratings - but it isn't that different actually...)

My blitz rating is 2108 and my puzzle rush high score is 32. My OTB rating is 1320 FIDE. None of this makes any sense to me but maybe you can make sense of this.

I tried asking a similar question a few weeks ago. It was "what's your (highest) chess.com rating for playing and what's your tactics trainer rating?" I would really like to try to find the correlation between tactics and playing strength. In general, I've found that people's ratings have been a few hundred points below their tactics trainer rating but who knows, I've occasionally seen it vice versa as well.

I feel like tactics trainer is a bit closer to an actual game vs. Puzzle Rush, as long as you're not playing bullet. To answer, I'm like 1500 on daily, which I mostly play, and like 1000 on blitz. My Puzzle Rush score is pretty low, like 15 because I don't really play it ever. Actually, I was wondering if anyone has experienced something with tactics & tactics Trainer where they rose, stayed there for a while, then all of a sudden totallly like lost their ability to do tactics. I was 1550 for like 2 weeks (doing 30-45 minutes every day over the whole period I will mention), before that 1400 for like 2 more, now all of a sudden I've fallen to 1300 in a matter of like 2 weeks and feel like I'm in a funk or something. Has anyone experienced that or could take a guess at why? I don't think my playing rating was ever really altered by it (it got a little worse), but now I'm not sure what to do. Anyone?

A PR of 40 is really high for a blitz of 1900.

I think my highest PR was 34.

Avatar of Verbeena

I rarely play blitz and never play bullet. My PR record is only 16, but i am happy if i even make it into the teens. My tactics trainer score is around 1700 but i really take my time to calculate and find the right solution. Playing fast is just not my thing, applies for both puzzles and actual games. My current rapid rating is 1300 and blitz 1000.

My highest Puzzle Rush is 18. My blitz is 1030+. My tactics is 1500+.

I've been getting 31 in puzzle rush. But I am a youth player (10) so don't have the overall experience of others. I want to get to 2000 in blitz online by the end of the summer.
