Chess.com and fairness

Is this platform truly fair? In the game I was originally tied, but at that moment, my connection dropped. My internet connection was functioning normally, with no issues. Then, when my screen showed that my opponent had one second left, I reconnected, and suddenly their time had jumped to 18 seconds, while I had only 4 seconds left. Ultimately, I went out of time.

chess.com isnt to blame if your internet had problems, unfortunately, it would be unfair to the other player if they got penalized for your lag

The site has to take into account, both players. If one player is disconnected from the live server process for too long, the game will be lost by abandonment, assuming the other player has sufficient material to mate. That process helps minimize waiting around for an opponent that may never come back.

I have experienced similar things. Maybe our internet connection is not so good (or the servers in the Chinese region aren’t stable?)
