Correspondence Chess

Hi Guys,

I am currently around a 1200 level player with goals of reaching above 1500. Is correspondence chess a good form of practice to improve my rating? Or would 15 minuite games be better?

if you play rapid chess be willing to loose 100 games in a row on the 101th game you will get some feeling for the game, personally I love the 5 minute games, but if you want to learn advanced chess play computer chess and take 15 minutes per move, I lost 100 games in a row but I found a way to deafeat the computer on the 101th game, dont stress about the lost games if you learn in each game you will become a great player

Thanks for the advice!

Play people, not computers

Playing only computers and studying the reasons you lose will help you improve, but it's lke boxing a steel beam. Find a human to play who is a little better than you, and incorporate computer analysis with game analysis and study.

Playing CC can definitely help improve you're game in addition to studying and doing alot of work but you must go about it the right way if you play on free sites online you'll only find yourself up against cheaters and sharks playing under multiple alias's who don't play with a straight deck.

Two suggestions:

1) Play only premium members on Chess.com who have something big to lose if they try it and get caught they're out $70 and won't come back.

2) My second suggestion is to join the CCLA (Correspondence Leauge of America) everyone plays under their real names they are very strict about enforcing the rules I believe the percentage of clean opponents you'll play against will be much higher than anywhere else I know.

You can play CC Chess at you're own pace without being rushed I recommend it give it a try!

bliz chess is the most fun, compter chess is not so much fun unless you have infinite time and understand suicide defence

CC can let you analyse your position using real or online boards. It helps me a lot to find the correct way of analysing in mind.

within 15 seconds I reach 80% of my ablity BUT if I invest 15 minutes per move I reach 90% of my ability, that is huge amount of time and energy just to get an extra 10%, but that is what body builders do push their limits to 90%, if you HAVE THE TIME FOR IT

Adlasa, I am exactly your position... 1200ish and trying to improve. I'm writing a blog about this at www.chessluddite.com and it includes stuff about correspondence games.
