This thread reminds me of the thread about being forced to resign... anyway, it's an interesting thought. However, in Live Chess, if you/your opponent times out, you get a notification saying that they "...may be violating our Fair Play Policy," blah blah blah.
Could chess.com encourage resignation from lost games?
I would love a discount on something that is already free, lol.
The formula is adjusted fee = |normal fee paid - discount|

So you are saying that chess.com would pay free members to resign?
This also reminds me of a post I just commented on lol ... my thoughts are you have the same amount of time howe he/she uses it is up to you/them... even if the game is lost... don't like to wait just play shorter games.

No, vertical bars are the 'absolute value' symbol.
Do the math
adj. fee = |0 - discount|
therefore adjusted fee = the absolute value (e.g. always positive number) of -discount, which means the discount is the *fee* not a refund.
if that was the case everyone would resign to get paid LOL
No, the absolute value symbol || means that free players would have to pay :-)
What if chess.com offered a discount to players whosd chess activity indicated they tend to resign immediately (presumably after reaching an untenable position), rather than run away on the clock or abandon games?
I wonder if that would encourage people to not waste other player's time so much.
Perhaps it should offer discounts to folks who don't start ridiculous threads.

Nice to be in a position not to find myself in need of a discount ;-)
I personally think its like a normal game you can resign in a tournament so you can resign in these games depends on the person
