Could I beat a GM with a queen handicap

Chess2knights, yes, we could beat a GM with Queen odds. What do you think is the highest rated player that you could give queen odds to and still have a plus score against?
I think it would only be about 1300 USCF. Having nothing for a queen makes the threat of trading pieces a huge threat!

Damn, you think you could beat a 1300 USCF player starting a queen down? I'm pretty sure I'd lose 5 for 5 in that one. Unless it's a blitz or bullet game then I have chances (and actually now that I think about I've won like this before heh)

Well I guessed on the high side. I could be wrong. I once beat a master while a bishop and pawn down with nothing for it. True it was not the start of the game.

There is another interesting remark from Larry Evans about another type of odds giving - he said that if an ordinary player had the right to make two moves in a row, only once per game, he could become world champion. Makes you think about wasting those tempos, huh?
Well that's cause you could threaten a tactic and execute it at the same time, which could win as much as a queen or king.
It's actually a forced mate:
I don't understand, that way of playing, isnt d4# already?

Steinar, that's a really cool analysis. I am guessing that the originator of the variant would add a rule so that it's not a forced win. Most likely something like you can't double move the same piece to capture the king (possibly even extend this to discoveries).

Have you heard of the chess variant where White makes the first move, then black makes two moves in a row, then white makes 3 in a row, black 4 in a row, etc? I'm sure there's a forced win for somebody in that too.

Last night, just for kicks I played Rybbka at queen odds in a G/15 game. It was not even close, it took 44 moves to mate, but I had a queen (via promotion), rook, knight, bishop, 3 pawns vs 2 pawns and a knight. Rybbka used all but 24 seconds and was throwing pieces at me like crazy towards the end, but it was essentially over by the 20th move when I gave the queen for a rook and three connected passers. A GM would have put up a lot more solid and conservative defense, but I think I'd have still won.

Could I beat a GM with a queen handicap?
Sounds pretty Deranged; if u do (did or r able) 2 beat a GM with a queen handicap: It's (your opponent) not a GM!! Not a human GM anyway.
SZ.

White would win. He plays 1. e3 and creates 3 threats to kill the black king in his next move.
-2. Qh5 & Qxf7+
-2. Qf3 & Qxf7+
-2. Bb5 & Bxd7+
Black can neither attack whites king with his two moves, nor block all 3 of whites paths to attack the black king, nor move the black king to safety.
(one might argue it's a stalemate after 1. e3 cause black cant do any move without his king getting killed after by white, but I didnt consider that in lack of precise rules for this variation)

Thats progressive chess, and no theres no forced wins yet I don't think, because check = reduce back to one move per person. The rule is if your checking, then your usually winning =)
Also Steinar I made a mistake, the bishop is checking not the pawn, so its not checkmate =)

hmm Steinar Nc3 what about c6? Im not sure how moves and captures would work out in your variant, unless its only checks that are double. There may still be a forced win for white, but c6 seems to protect from mate for a bit and also black's queen could get into play.

Couldn't a GM conjure up several opening/middlegame attacks that do not use the queen and quite easily destroy any <2000 player?
Like knock the pieces off the board and pretend that was the way it was supposed to be?

unless you mean u can checkmate in less than 5 moves too =)... guess not, Lasker can't respond to a checkmate lol.

fezzik if thats the case, then...
what about this?
