Could I get tips to overcome my tilt and reach 1700

I just had my biggest tilt so far after improving from 1203 to the 1600s. I tilted from 1638 --> 1605 so I just tilted 33 rating points in one sitting. I literally want to quit Chess forever and never come back. Sure, sure, people have tilted hundreds of points before in one sitting, but Im playing rapid. I pretty much just lost all my hope in ever reaching 1700 over the course of like 2 hours. And the worst part, if I lose one more game I would go down to the 1500s.... its crazy how a week's work can be gone in just less than 2 hours. Also one thing I do after a lose like 2 or just 1 game, I switch from 15+10 to 10+0 which might be a dumb thing to do.

I'm struggle to reach 1400. But you need to do a lot of puzzles.

I suck at puzzles, I have like 53% succes rate in em

You’ve made super consistent progress the last months, there’s supposed to be ups and downs

Just keep at it and try to improve and you’ll naturally get better

Yo 23 rating is major tilt!! I wish tilt was the same definition for me lol

I just got to 1700 and am somewhat struggling. It is all due to not thinking before I move. Before a move, think if you can possibly put more pressure in a pleasant position, if your opponent's attack is stronger than yours, if you must defend or seek counterplay, etc. I also recommend studying master games and using the engine to deeply analyze your games. Examine why the moves you played were worse than the engine's moves.

Noooo don’t leave ChanMan.

Do you realize how much work you’ve put into this? Don’t let one bad day ruin your dreams! You’ll regret this! Just keep pushing everyday! I believe in you!

Danke for the support outwitted, really appreciate it. I'm not going to quit, I was just making an exaggeration, but I am probably going to take a break for maybe 1-3 days.

ChanMan4, I once had a tilt so bad in bullet that i went from 1300 to 900 but the next day I played so much chess and analyzed my games I went to 1400! I know tilt isn't a good thing but you will improve over time, try do more puzzles or memorize opening tactics, don't quit chess because of one bad day.

Cheers,

A fellow chess player.

This is more for a blitz perspective, but I wrote this up today based on my experience: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/i-broke-1700-heres-my-understanding-of-the-ratings-along-the-way

I mean you are overreacting that you will never have the chance to be 1700. Life is long. But anyways, you're goal should be to become a 1700 rated player, not just happen to have the rating of a 1700 player. Think about your own weaknesses and then just work on them before hopping into your next games. A lot of people inherently know at least 1 thing that they could improve, and yet they look to outsiders for help as if they have tried everything. If you just focus on the most critical weakness you are self aware of, then that could be enough to win you your next game or better yet, not lose you the game with one massive blunder.

Don’t put so much emphasis on your rating. Online Ratings are highly variable, especially for blitz, rapid, and bullet. If you play 100 quick games against someone at your level, you are expected to have streaks in which you lose 5 or 6 in a row

Play Slower time controls. Study middlegame plans that develop from your openings Analyze your games without a computer. Study endgame principles.

Measure your advancement as a chessplayer in terms of your understanding of the game, not a number.

1) Tilting 33 rating isn’t gonna garner much sympathy from me. I mean that in a real way.

2) You’ve improved quite a bit, and you should be proud of yourself for that. Improvement isn’t linear, and everyone faces bumps in the road.

3) Online rating isn’t important - no matter how much I want to think it is.

Online rating isn't important! But anyways, don't stop just keep on going! You can make it!

You think that is tilting? Wait till you tilt 100 points or more

Rating drops are part of the game, I guess. I play mostly bullet and I tilt. HARD. If you look at my history. I've had crazy swings. But that's the thing. The more you play and review your games, you'll climb back up. And it's all about mindset. I reached 1800 bullet, but dropped to 1400. Does that mean I'm at a 1400 level? Nah. I know I have what it takes to get my rating back up. Even if you drop, that doesn't mean you suck. Maybe you need to take a break.
