Thinking that since your oponnent deviates from you opening line at move 10 he must be lost, and start to look for tactics to win material.
Actually, this happened last wednesday.

continually lost my e-pawn.. not fair the d-pawn sets off into the world with his mothers love blazing behind him. not so for the e-pawn, with the wolves lurking at every corner a cold world awaits this lone traveler of the efile.

actually no it gives black to much equality, I am still a beginner and prefer the advantages of d4,c4.

But how do you lost your e pawn then? It´s supossed to be on e3 on your lines (I guess).

socialista, I didn't used to play with any lines in mind and I did often find myself moving e4 protector or not calculating the pin. in general i was too focused on attacking and often lost the pawn. (I was being sarcasstic before, I have been playing terrible live chess lately, complete with giving away queens, I must be distracted..) I have yet to play e4 with white. I enjoy when black gives me the chance to transpose into the Ruy Lopez but that is my only experience with a more e4 opening.
I new my Queen was very valuable so I did everything I could to keep her out of harm's way. I usually built a little pawn fortress and stuck her behind it just to make sure she didn't get captured. I was basically just taking her out of the game -- making her a useless piece.

lol, moving pawns and pieces because i liked the formation or it looked cool not because it had any fundamental advantage..
Getting overexcited whenever someone fianchettoed and just pushing the kingside pawns forward like a caveman hoping for a quick checkmate everytime.
i knew that rooks and queens whee powerfull, so i brought them out REALLY early, then, i knew that in center board it is very hard to checkmate the king, (i now know this is for endgame) and brought the king out in to center board REALY early
1.e4 e5 2. Qh5... but as i was very good at tactics cause of chess.com practice... i was able to play it forward and was able to win the state level school chess tournament and go to nationals :P...
I (as a very young kid) burst into tears every time that I couldn't castle. You still rarely see me un-castled.
that's awesome, I'm guessing most people didn't do a queen trade at the beginning forcing you to take it with your king when you were at that age :)
This is a game I played when I was a total beginner against my father, who has never cared about chess and probably just wanted to get the game over with. I was white:
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Qh4 1-0

No, I was cute as a button.
missing mates and hanging pieces and in general missing moves that wouldve given me or led to me getting material or a better position all of which i occasionally still do
