I find OTB to be more enjoyable. But due to work and family commitments, I rarely have the opportunity to play anything other than correspondence type games.
do you like playing chess more online or in-person??

I prefer OTB (In person) Nothing beats actualy having the pieces in front of you and I also like the psychological aspect of having the other person there. I like seeing their faces when you slowly destroy them taking all their major pieces bit by bit and then slowly but surely close their King down and put them in checkmate.

Hi rdecredico, I totally hear what you are saying and Im with you on that. At the end of the day how can we know who is not cheating by entering our moves into a computer/phone etc.

Oh, OTB FTW!!! I've played a few games here, but now...blaaah. I'm just not into the online thing anymore. I'm going to turn off my accept challenges, finish my games in progress and only play online if I know the guy IRL, but I'd much, much rather play in person. I just use this site to browse the forums and practice tactics now.

sme people are so paranoid with cheating----------------just because oyu lose does not mean the other person cheated-I like both

not saying some people dont cheat, but I think it is a low percentage-------not saying you but some people on here are so paranoid about cheating, makes me wonder if they cheat. I was playing this one game and was getting beat pretty good, and then all of a sudden I saw a mistake by the other other play which enabled me to make a great move and turn the game around - tempo changes in a game and I got the evil eye.
I mostly use the internet to prepare for real life matches(practice). We didn't always have the ease of internent chess. You had to 'search out' players, then they had to be in the mood, and then you were usually EXTREMELY unevenly matched, and no one learned anything.
Online chess is an AMAZING 'tool' for learning chess and getting better, but, playing a person online will NEVER be better than handing germs back and forth, with another human, over a grimy, real life, chessboard.
