Creta's Double Elimination Rapid Tournament

Rules:

  • This is a double-elimination tournament. That is, you must lose twice before being eliminated from this tournament. Everyone starts in the winner’s bracket, and if you lose in the winner’s bracket, you drop down to the loser’s bracket. You are out of this tournament if you lose in the loser’s bracket (and thus cannot play more games related to this tournament). If you reach the final on the winner’s bracket, you enter the final with a loss advantage, meaning that your opponent must beat you twice to win this tournament.

  • The matches are 10|0 rapid games on chess.com. Winning a game in a match gives you 1 point, drawing gives you 0.5 points, and losing gives you 0 points. Matches are best of three, meaning the first person to 2 points wins the match. If both players reach 2 points at the same time, more rapid games will be played until one player wins a game over the other, no matter how long that takes.

  • Anyone is welcome to join my tournament. You can either join directly here or join through the Google Form I have linked below. If you want to join, the only requirement is that you have previously played 10 rapid games on chess.com. Any rating is welcome. The reason I ask for 10 rapid games is because this tournament is seeded and I use rapid ratings to generate the seeds (higher rating means higher seeds).

  • This tournament will start on May 28th 2026.

I join. But how could 2 persons reach 2 points in 3 games? And how is it decided who gets white more times?

And a good advice because I also have tournaments: don't display the exact rating, just like this:

1800+

2000+

etc.
or if you wanna be precise, 1825+, 2025+, etc.
elseway it'll be a nightmare to constantly update it

Matches are played until someone has 2 points and their opponent has less than 2 points. Best of three means the match ends as soon as someone reaches 2 points. However, there is a possibility that both plays hit 2 points at the same time. This can happen after 4 games, not 3.

Also, according to my rules, 1.5-0.5 is not enough to win the match as you have reached 1.5 points, not 2 points.

what if it’s 2-1 and it was 2 draws and 1 win? then the person who lost the match didn’t lose 2 games

My tournament states that the first person to reach 2 points wins the match. It doesn’t matter if the opponent didn’t lose 2 games.

The way I do ratings is that if you are 1410 you are 1400+ since you are within the ranges of 1400 and 1425. If you are 1426 you are 1425+ since you are within the ranges of 1425 and 1450.

Might still have to update ratings before the tournament start but hopefully less often.

Ratings are locked once the tournament starts because they are used to determine seeding.

Do you already have a plan for when (also which time zone) the tournament will take place? I work 9am to 5pm EST so I'd have trouble participating if it takes place during those hours.

You will need to work out a specific time and make sure your opponent agrees to it. State which time zone you are using so your opponent knows when the games start in their time zone.
