CRUSH IT!!!

MrMorphi

The Danish hasn't been popular in high level chess since the time of Alekhine for a reason. As long as black is careful, he will enjoy a significant advantage after completing development. That's not to say the Danish can't win some games against lower-rated opponents, it definitely can, but the higher rated you go the more likely black is to win. It is worth noting, though, that if white plays 4. Nxc3 play will often transpose to the Goring Gambit - after, say, 4. Nxc3 Nc6 5. Nf3 - a fun sideline of the Scotch and a variation that scores much better for white than the Danish

The difference is black is missing the c pawn instead of the e pawn.

This means black can close more diagonals (e6 or e5 blunts white's light or dark squared bishop) and control more central squares (restricts knight jumps into center), so white has less (or at least more dubious) compensation than in the Danish.

It's still 2 pieces developed vs none, so at fast time controls and lower ratings it's probably fine. I might aim to make sure the position is winning or losing within 25 moves. So for example develop both knights, then sac a knight on f7 tongue.png

also there's very few people willing to take on c3 when the alapin is good enough to give black a decent game, let alone take on b2.

taking on c3 is the only way to get an immediate advantage

Why does every bad opening I find in the internet has the name: "gotham" or "levy" next to it?

if it were winning, i would gladly do the theoretical work, but it's not. at least for me i can't see it. so it's not worth allowing white so many tactical ideas and basically all the fun if i can't defend like a gm and consolidate the position.

I thought it was another opening book advertisement:

"Win with the..."

"Crush the..."

"Dominate with the..."

"Obliterate your opponent with the..."

"Set your opponent on fire with the..."

"How to beat the..."

according to engines this is true, but in most practical games black can choose not to take the pawn and still get a comfortable game.
