custom chess pieces

Hey guys, is there a chess program that would allow me to change the pictures that represent the pieces? I wanted to make chess board with a specific theme, (example: Nintendo chess board where mario/peach is king/queen and pawns are goombas, etc) but creating a chess program from scratch is too daunting of a task. I simply want to represent the pieces of an existing chess program  with different images without changing the game/code. Anyone know of a way i could pull this off?

Not sure if you would find it helpful but I've been struggling with selection of custom images, boards and pieces on the chess.com app for a while -- I was able to 'cheat' my way into the app and overwrite files on the Android version -- I totally redesigned pieces and boards but it's so unpleasant to having to effectively hack the game.

You can do this easily without coding by using the browser extension Stylus to override the piece images on Chess.com or Lichess with your own custom images. Alternatively, you can download Lucas Chess on your desktop, which lets you swap the default piece graphics by simply dropping your custom PNG files into its program folders.
