As many as you want. If you log on and none of your games need attention, then maybe too few. If you dread logging on because there's more work than is fun, maybe too many. Some folks just go from game to game blitzing out moves; some spend hours researching a single move. Depends on your style and how much time you have available for chess. Most find anything over a dozen to be a bit of a burden, but some like dozens or even hundreds (we won't count the madmen with over a thousand...
). Start with 2 or 3 and see what happens is my advice. Also for variety many like having at least one game in each of the 3 phases of a chess game. Have fun!
