So I did the daily Puzzle today the 14th of July and I had to block a row of 3 black prawns with my King then run my only white pawn to the other end of the board where it was promoted. Only I couldn't finished the puzzle by promoting to Queen. Only after much puzzling did I finish after selecting a rook. Which is Stupid cos the opponents King could then move next to it and block it in.

If you promote to a queen it's a draw because of stalemate.

After you promote to a rook, the black king can move to g7, but the rook can escape the threat either by using the h file or the 8th rank.

Oh dear, you need to look at it again.

Promoting to Q results in stalemate.

Promoting to R results in a win for white.

Black cannot "block" the Rook.

OK, now I feel like the stupid one. Thanks peeps

I was wondering exactly the same thing!

I also wondered why h5 wasn't acceptable as the second move....

Ah sorry, also retarded question - to stop the King from being +'d. 🙈

That was a crazy easy puzzle too.

Did you eat the black "prawns"?

Don't throw around the word "retarded" when you are wrong about something.

I remember days where i was looking at the board and everything was completely alien to me. Chess had completely different feeling. Like everything in life there is nothing like the first/beginner  experience.

Yeah, we've all been there, feeling frustrated at a puzzle for showing an obviously wrong move... or not accepting an obviously winning move.

Especially back in the days where you did puzzles from books, it was common to hear less experienced players complain that they often found alternate solutions heh.
