Just celebrating. Onto 1400!

Btw, the aww-rats group and his free lessons did help me along. Just in case anybody was wondering about that :D!!!

Damn...really wish I had a cookie to celebrate!

I know how you feel bro, just broke 1450 last night and feeling good

Congrats.  1300 was my first rating aspiration actually... my first improvement plan in chess involved making it to 1300 and then quitting chess for good.

I see you're looking forward to 1400... tsk tsk.  Seems the game trapped you as it trapped me.  It's too late to escape now.  The only thing left is to make your time with chess as tolerable as possible Wink

Ratings goals are definitely what keep me going on here. That, and a love of the game of course! I remember when I first started my rating bounced around and once spiked to 1856, but soon settled around 1450. Managed to break 1600 recently and beat a 2000 player.

In 15/10, I broke 1400 a month ago, then It have me inspiration to break 1500, which I did two days ago. I also successfully broke 1900 on chess mentor, 2000 on tactics trainer and am now aiming for 1400 blitz. That's the best thing about ratings, you can set yourself goals.

Trophy sent. Thanks for studying my methods, and using them!

Nice one :) guess I coud also set some kind of goal for myself... Anyway, congratulations with your achievement!

The very definition of improvement lies in the ability to coordinate and successfully reach towards goals that you have set yourself. I consider ratings to be inconsequential to what chess truly is. However, they are a fantastic way to gauge your own understanding of the ancient subject and provide standing point to which you can vault towards even greater understanding.

In short, play for playing, not for rating. Enjoy the game, don't try to improve, study it because you want to, because you love the game. If you play for the love, you will improve. This is the same for all activities. Practice is necessary (for most), but the love of the game will carry you forward.
