My peak is also 2300 / 1500, but since a while I am struggling to stay over 2200/1400

im 3k puzzles and i can assure u that puzzles dont rly help with ur play the way most people think they do.

puzzles simply become a rating gaining thing. u know its a puzzles, and u would play the most likely combination anyway.

totally different to real chess play.

I'm 1550 puzzle (though quite happily hit 1800 even the other day!), 650 rapid.  I just don't have uninterrupted time for games.  I have lots of short blocks of time or play when I can't sleep...hence dramatic up and down in ratings.  The thing I have found is people should not consider the puzzle "rating" as anything more than a number that typically has 4 digits and looks sort of like an ELO rating.  They are correlated loosely but you should have no expectation that solving a 1400 puzzle means you can hang with a 1400 ELO player.  The numbers are apples and oranges...both fruit, but different.

You can't "manipulate" your ELO (without cheating) because there is a fixed time and real opponents.  With puzzles you can go slow and be mostly sure you are right and claw your way up getting only +5 for each puzzle.   I looked at the history for one of the highly ranked puzzle guys (something like 30,000 rating!) and they had very few puzzles completed but almost all were correct, compared to the usually 50/50 ish rate for hacks like me.

Tactics is not only about finding winning tactics, but also preventing the opponent to set up a tactical blow. For example, by knowing a smothered mate   you will be perhaps be able to prevent an opponent knight to get access to a certain square, and the game goes on. By not knowing the mating idea the game is over after let’s say 4 moves. And no, chess is not 90% tactics. A player rated 2000 in tactics but without basic knowledge on opening (also to save time in the first 6-12 moves), strategy and endgames will struggle to get over 1000 in rapid. But a player with this basic knowledge in opening, strategy and endgame and with very poor tactical skills will also struggle to go over 1000 in rapid, simply because he will not see a combination working for or against him.

I am 1400 rated daily chess but cant get past a 1000 in rapid. Is there something fundamental I am missing or am I just too old to rapid!! My puzzle rating is 160

You need to work heavily on your tactics!

I think it's just that the time control in daily is probably much longer. In rapid, you have to manage time as well. It's all in a single sitting and every move we make in rapid reduces the time we have (assuming non-incremental rapid like 30|0). In daily, the time frame is always "refreshed" after each move.

Since your puzzle rating is 1629, your tactics should be decent.

I managed to get puzzle rating of 2100 while I'm 1180 Blitz and 1350 Rapid. I think the problem with my low rating is not finding a game plan in the actual game while seeing tactics when they arise...

My problem is related to a lack of basic understanding of the game. I am planning to begin again working with the basics, like with the books from Seirawan or Yussupov.

Passed 2500 puzzle rating last week. When i first started my puzzle rating was as low as 750! Solving chess puzzles is a different skill compared to playing. My playing strength has only marginally increased over the same period. After some time it becomes easier to predict the theme of the puzzle, which narrow down my analysis and effort to solve it.

Do you think you have tp work with openings? Or endgames?

My rapid is 1030 and my puzzles is 2000. So I really just need to sit down and look at openings?

Yes. But not because of your puzzle rating. Having a puzzle rating 1000 points higher than a playing rating is not uncommon.
