Hey,
My friend recommended to play chess on chess.com, but all I can say is that this website is bad.
Why do you let people disconnect, and waste time from me. All I want is to play chess ffs. Not look at the screen when people are disconnecting and wait my whole life to see time flying away.
The problem with disconnections used to be much worse.
Repeated disconnects at the very start of a game or abortions are very disconcerting. Some people used to try to use the abort feature to try and only play black. Other people only wanted to play games if the opponent was rated much higher or lower. It was not infrequent to have half a dozen games aborted in a row. Many members complained and several years ago, the policy was adopted that after several aborted games, any future aborted games would be considered as resignations. That seems to have discouraged the frequent use of the abort button, although we do still get people here from time to time claiming a right to do what they want when they want.
Disconnects during the later stages of a game are harder to judge. Some people do lose connections through no fault of their own. Others just close their browsers rather than resign. People used to be allowed their full time controls to reconnect. That was a huge problem. While the difference was usually obvious to humans, it is hard to program a computer to recognize.
Now, however, players only have a one minute period to reconnect (the period is longer I believe for slower time controls) before the game is awarded. That doesn't seem like "having to wait their whole life to see time flying away."
Frequent disconnectors can get assigned to a special pool where their matches are set up with other disconnectors/aborters.
These policies were adopted several years ago and seem to have cut way down on the frequency of such actions.
