Discovery # 1

Don't spend your precious time studying chess on your own with the intention of getting better because you will be really disappointed with your upcoming games. If you really want to do it join a chess club, hire an expert.

Discovery # 2

If you don't want to invest your money in a coach but you can't have fun by having no understanding of the game, wondering how plans are formed, making random moves, blundering constantly, losing won games, missing mating combinations and basically losing every second game of yours you have to give up chess

Experience made me say this my friend and not only my own. I like to check the stats of my opponents I play. Most of the time the player has already had a higher rating than the actual one and played hundreds of games.
Lets be honest and face it: most of us(me included of course) are stuck on the same skill level for months, even years and we don't make any progression no matter how hard we try.

As the stubborn guy who I am, a chess coach would only frustrate me with the game Tongue out
