Guys, give Naka a break. It's a youtube video, made for entertainment purposes, and his buddy put him there as a "God of Chess". Besides, Naka didn't claim "he would have been world champ if it weren't for Magnus", he said "all three of us could be world champions", which is not totally absurd... (Even Karjakin, ranked #17, almost became the world champion.)
Disgusting Video

I mean let's be honest about it. QxC has brought more players to chess than Naka... because his audience was mainly non players.
Naka has done, comparatively, nothing. Maybe he's introduced 2000 level players to U800 tournaments (pogchamps) but that's about it.
To be honest, Hikaru started this whole PogChamps thing, and plus, he introduced chess to xQc. Many people watched him play chess just to see him lose and rage.,

Plus, when he introduced chess to top twitch streamers, and those twitch streamers play on chess.com, with so many viewers, all those viewers come to chess.com. Some of them become so interested in chess, and boom, diamond membership or some other membership.
Let's just say, Hikaru wasn't really useless. The PogChamps thing really got chess.com money!

And, as a consequnece, I honestly have no reason to check his channel anymore.
I was interested in the opening tier list series, but disappointingly they covered all rating ranges except mine.
They covered GMs.
They covered literal beginners.
And then they defined intermediate as 1200 to 1800.
So where the hell am I?
"On my own" is the answer to that question.
And soon after finishing that series he rates himself as a literal legend.
Well yeah, I think it's time for me to say goodbye to his channel.
Not that he will care. Not only am I a chess player, but I'm also over the age of 12, which means I'm doubly not part of his target demographic
I already got a very bad taste in my mouth in his openings video but this ranking of players was even worse. He put himself a couple of spots ahead of damn Max Euwe who actually did manage to become a world champion and bring down a God of Chess (Capablanca).

I found that part of the video rather cringy as well, then again nothing new from a Hikaru video. Anyone who has followed him for a while knows that he never passes an opportunity to praise himself and his abilities.
Talking about a tier list Hikaru does not belong in the same tier as Magnus, Bobby or Kasparov. Close, but not quite there. The fact that for a while he put Karpov below himself is just laughable. However I'm not sure whether your assessment of Hikaru vs. Fabi is accurate one. Fabiano while being arguably stronger at classical chess, doesn't come close to Hikarus prowess in faster time formats or variants, which arguably are more and more chess of the day. I think they both belong in the same tier and in which order is up to whichever type of abilities you prefer.
A classy choice would simply be to not have included his name. He could mention himself, but say something like it's not appropriate for him to rank himself... instead he faked it, and told Levy to rank him.
Levy... the man who admitted on stream he couldn't even name the world champs in order (I can do that) didn't need to think for more than 2 seconds before rattling off a litany of praises for Nakamura culminating in declaring Hikaru a god. It couldn't have been more obvious they planned this before the stream began.

As for speed chess vs classical, they aren't comparable.
Who was the world #1 rapid player 5 years ago?
How about blitz?
How about 20 years ago?
No one knows, because no one cares.
Even in blitz or rapid alone, Nakamura isn't even undisputed #1 (let alone god of chess) because Carlsen exists.

Hikaru hasn't really been number one in any category except (maybe) online speed chess. It hurts to see him rank himself among world champs when he hasn't come close

Hikaru is incredibly arrogant imo. You can just tell from his recent game where he Bongclouded against GM Jeffrey Xiong.

I could probably crush Hikaru using a chess engine in a 15+15 game. He might be good but not THAT good
dude....EVERYONE CAN BEAT SOMEONE USING A CHESS ENGINE.....

I totally agree with you llama. To reiterate:
1) Hikaru does not deserve to be called a "legend" of chess, because he's never been a world champion or even close to it.
2) Hikaru is well-known for being a poor sport, throwing a tantrum when he loses.
3) Hikaru is not the most influential chess player. Agadmator, xQc and many others have done far more for the game of chess than Hikaru has, and they weren't even on the list.
4) Levy was incentivised to say nice things about Hikaru, for his own personal gain. He's an IM that's trying to gain popularity in the chess community. It's like an executive saying nice things about the CEO of the company they work for. You can't trust what they have to say.
5) These rankings are always super American-centric. They always rank American players like Fischer above other legends like Karpov, Kasparov, etc.
I only watched Levy Rozman like twice and could already sense and see how toxic he is and rude to others and people in the chat. I can’t imagine why people like watching him.
The only large streamer I sometimes watch are the Botez sisters and Chessbrahs now

tbh the Botez sisters are probably the most entertaining and nicest chess streamers on Twitch, but the fact that they stream in the category "Just Chatting" when they're playing Chess, and claiming it "introduces more people to chess" is complete BS. They just want more viewers, and they'll leave Chess behind if they have to

Also, @Llama, the reason why people like xQc and Agadmator are not on the list is that their skill level is much lower than anyone else on the list. Obviously, they've had a huge impact on Chess, but to be on the list skill matters too. Hikaru is a super GM, and he's had a tremendous impact on Chess.
yes and #100
