do Americans really see Bobby as one of the greatest players

I think the point is that every generation throws up better players, for example in golf if jack Nicholas was at his peak playing Rory Mcilroy who would come out on top, I think Mcilroy would win out not only for the sheer lengh of drive and his short game, in 20 years time there will be someone else better than Rory ever was, it's the same in chess would you say that kasperov is weaker than carlson, I don't know only time will tell

R. J. B. Fischer was the greatest chess player of all time.

Thank you Apotek. That is why Fischer is the best player ever, no trainer, no Soviet School of chess and world champion teacher ( Botvinnik, who Karpov and Kasparov benefit from Botvinnik teachings.) or a team of GMs to help you in adjournments; Bobby study chess to become the greatest player ever.

Here is the Fischer article I submitted earlier, but could not find. Perhaps I erred in submission.

Say what you will about the eccentricities of Bobby Fischer, a certain amount of falderal attracts public interest. Bobby, the child chess prodigy; teenage grandmaster; world champion before age 30, gave the chess world something to talk about. I watched the famous Fischer-Spassky match in 1972 and made a scrapbook from newspaper and magazine clippings. Surprisingly, Bobby took a poisoned pawn and sacrificed his bishop in game One. He caught up with Boris in game Five, at 2 ½ each.

During game Seven, hints of sabotage were made by the Spassky camp. Was there some electronic devices and chemical substances in the playing hall? Reykjavik officials searched and found none. Nearly 3,000 people packed the dome shaped hall in regimented silence to watch the match while the world looked on at a distance.

The St. Louis Globe Democrat on Friday, September 1, 1972, headlined “Victory mood reigns in Fischer’s camp.” In game 21, Spassky sealed his 41st move exercising his right to adjourn the game. The next day the Russian defender telephoned his resignation. Fischer’s passed pawn and advanced king were too strong. In the 24 game series he was leading 11 ½ to 8 ½. $250,000 went to the winner, an unheard of amount for a chess championship at the time.

Yeah you're right, no one should ever discuss the accomplishments of anyone who is dead.  -_-

First of all, you should apologise for offending me. I am not one of your goats.

I was so convinced this alexandra DUDE was just a simple troll - but trolls are (should be) intelligent and should know when the mask is not covering the face anymore - alexandra/alexander seems to not fit into this... so... is he real? :O the thought scares me...

Back in the day we had trolls who were clever, entertaining even. Quality trolling is a lost art.

My guess is that our "Greek" troll here is sitting in a basement somewhere in Jerkwater, Iowa.

The horse has it's mouth closed, it's not licking him, they're just rubbing faces in an affectionate manner.

What a lovely photo, even if someone totally unknown was there instead of Fischer, it would be very nice!

What makes people assume that Fischer's failure to defend his championship had anything to do with Karpov personally?

Indeed. I consider Bobby Fischer as one of the great chess players...if not the All-time Great. As an American, as an Chess player, no doubt he had a big influence in my play.

If Fischer (an American) hadn't won the WCC in '72, I highly doubt that you would have ever been involved with chess.

I highly doubt that this site would have existed if it hadn't been for Fischer.

I highly doubt that the disrespectful trolls would have this forum to spread their hate on him...

At last, someone who knows what he's talking about.

Without Fischer, chess would still be in the Stone Age in the USA- and not only there.
