Master the game and never lose!

Chess isn't the problem. If you've got anger issues it just shows itself when you play chess. Quit chess, and it will just come out in other ways.

This sounds right.  When I first began I would get nervous or mad during a game -- but after 100 or so losses I was desensitized and it didn't matter anymore.

A few years later I was going through some stuff at work -- and worse when I got home I had issues with my roommate.  When I went to play chess one day it's like you said, I'd start getting upset during the game, heart rate increase, angry, etc.  It was just coming out through the chess, it wasn't the chess itself.

You may want to quit if it's a bad trigger for you and you're making yourself sick -- but like woodshover said it's just a symptom, ideally you should kick that roommate out and tell your boss you're taking a vacation... well, you see what I mean anyway Smile

Geez guy... with all your silly posts so far, do you even have to ask if playing chess is worth it?

Let's see.. you freak out because your psychologist said to you chess was "only a game", and then you post some other silly and stupid stuff about being "too neurotic to join a chess club". Then you post asking if Einstein had a monster chess woodie (or something - I really couldn't tell from what you were saying).

I would say, you seriously need attention  (and/or are a hairy troll). Have you tried a girlfriend, or maybe, even, leaving the house?

bisoprolol

reserpine

There are ways to continue playing without inducing a stroke or heart attack. Only your doctor can prescribe the correct medication.

Oh, please don't encourage our resident "neurotic" troll by replying to his posts. We want him to develop new and more innovative ways of trolling, so encouraging him at this early stage will just retard (hello Sarah!!) his progress.

yes you do

It could be very easily the case that you're Taking Chess Altogether Too Seriously.

That's fine, it's easy to do - obsessions with chess litter the literature.

Perhaps you might consider the topics of your posts as an indicator of sorts. I know the responses from a chess website will be ridiculously skewed, but at the end of the day - yes, it is a game, yes, you're likely too enthralled.

Without enshrining your personal psyche for display on this public site, a gentle suggestion nonetheless: evaluate your priorities. You've probably succumb to a very easy (and well documented) obsession. But trust me, you will be better for breaking it.

It was tough making sense of this question, wasn't it? "Was Albert Einstein a very good Chess player?"

Still, were you seeking some kind of validation?

LOL. Ok. Please explain all your other pathetic bait posts. You are a TROLL sir. Accept it. There might be a 12 step program somewhere for you. Or find a girlfriend who likes smelly guys with no shoes (good luck with that). Or just stop with the yadda yadda. It really makes you look silly.

I find people far to quick to make the "troll" accusation these days. I have no doubt that Mr. Eo_____ is sincere. H eexpresses that he's in-over-his-head with his obsession lately, enough so that he's raised it with his psychologist. Nothing about this is in any way indicative of traditional trollism, and you're attacking him rather vehemently, Mr. Joad, without sufficient basis.

Chess can be a veritable whirlpool of descending obsession - there is a limitless depth beneath you, all ready to be plumbed and tested by your intellect. Much better men than we have succumb. He should not be ashamed that his online postings are indicative of it, nor be censured as a troll for being honest.

Oh please. The guy is a troll. Read his posts. "Whirlpool of descending obession"... or of purple prose. Just get over it. Shame on both of you.

Mr. Joad - my rather prosaic comment about chess being a whirlpool of descending obsession I adamantly stand behind, this thread notwithstanding. It is.

The only one acting as a traditional troll, ie. posting deliberately to inflame is yourself.

"Just get over it" is nonsensical, I have no idea what you intend to state her other than, what, don't post anymore? And "shame"? Now who is taking things too seriously?

Your issues are not with anger, they're with self esteem.  You get too tied up in your outcomes and that makes you feel stupid. Yes, definately quit.  Or, talk to your therapist about it.  Also quit being a troll.

i'd like to weigh in here.  Eo_________  is in fact a troll.  i wish he was turned to stone.

I am consistently convinced that the members of chess.com need to be schooled on what actual trolls are, as I am flabberghasted at how often the perjorative is raised for no other reason than that someone disagrees with someone else. Perhaps it is a youth thing - anyone with even a few good internet years under their belt would not fling the word around so carelessly. Stop cheapening a legitimate term with over-use and over-application when it is not at all called for.

I guess you are a troll then too eh? Welcome Sir! Have fun here. And please do "adamantly" stand behind or state (or care to spell correctly) whatever you want to spew. Thing is, your friend has been spewing nonsense. He seems to have a real problem. (not funny).

 Rael → English  Translation:

You are using the word "troll" incorrectly.

I honestly sometimes think that he needs a personal translator.
