Do the bright move colors make it hard for you to see the board?

It is nice knowing what move was made, but I wish they would just outline the square instead of filling it with color. Not only does the break of the black and white checked pattern throw off my pattern recognition, but I have a natural habit to look away from anything bright and shining at me (years of driving at night).

I don't want to complain since the website and matches are so wonderful and free. I also realize my opponent has the same problem. I just think I'd play 100 points higher if the move indicator was less bright. Each game there are at least two moves where I don't notice that my opponent accidentally put his piece where my pawn could get it, or that he is threatening one of my pieces. Actually this happens many times, but at least a third of the time it is the color that makes me miss it.

Anyone else have this same problem?

You may like playing free but I know that I am a diamond member and I have the option to change the board pieces colours etc, so thats never really been a problem for me. My only suggestion would be upgrading. Sorry :(

You could try screwing around with the brightness/contrast controls on your monitor, or else follow Mr_ha's advise & upgrade. And yes other people have this problem which is why USCF's most popular roll up vinyl board is green and white (they also come in blue, red and black) because green is supposed to be the "easiest" color to focus on, at least out of their choices available.

You can turn it off in your settings and use the arrows to see the last move.
