Years ago, White didn't always get the first move. At some point, people got it into their heads that the Black pieces were lucky. To counteract the inferior luck of the White pieces, it became the convention that White should have the first move.

Its not what it sounds like i swear, lol i just wanted to know that if you guys had the choice, do you play as white or black? i personally like reacting more than acting, since i have like, one braincell when it comes to chess (and most other things), so my personal preference is black when i have the choice. let me now what you guys think lol
