Do you also play correspondence chess?

I decided to start up with chess again after 30 odd years, and thought instead of joining a local club, to pick up correrspondence chess again. It seems a better chance to practice play in combination with theory.

Who knows if later on I'll join live club play again. Meanwhile I sometimes dabble here in 15 minute games, with on and off success. It's meant for me to challenge my quick insight.

What are your comments and thoughts?

Correspondence chess is called Daily chess here.

All games allow at least 24 hours per move.

Ah, I had not noticed that.

But what I mean is playing correspondence chess for example through you own national chess league on ICCF.

"pick up correrspondence chess again" ++ ICCF allows engine use

"Who knows if later on I'll join live club play again." ++ Over the board is real chess.

"Meanwhile I sometimes dabble here in 15 minute games" ++ Better 15|10

That is right tycxc!

You can use an engine, or my 30 years old books, to compare positions, seek advise, etc. etc. In the end with all this information, you still need to make a decision as a player.

I do play my correspondence games on a real table, to actually see what is happening. It is sometimes much better than a virtual 2D screen view.

And yes, I meant the 15/10 games ;-)

I played correspondence continually for more than twenty years. It started with post cards, then email, then websites like this one. I put a lot of effort into these games. My ability to research was a great help. Sometimes I would spend many hours stretched over several days on a single move. I learned a lot that helped in OTB.

I grew weary. I still play an occasional game, but am not as active as I had been.

I joined ICCF to get a look at the databases and played two games. Cyborg chess is too much work. It was fun guiding the engine to create imbalances in order to create winning chances.
