Do you chat during a chess game?

I find games more interesting when we carry on a conversation while playing.  Talking about what we might be planning to do and laugh at mistakes while praise great moves.   Sometimes, we'd dare the other to take a piece (always to the darer's advantage of course... not exactly, sometimes it is just to trick the other player into not taking the piece).

I try not to chat during live online games since I'm not sure about the etiquette.  Do most people chat during the game?  Maybe the other player is just wanting for me to start a conversation?

I generally don't just because I tend to play a lot of games at once and I am really busy. But I have built up a rapport with a number of players and with those I know well we will chat during the game about the game and about other things.

If you play slow games then it depends on oppnents but usually in games like blitz time is more important
