Do you feel pressured when your opponent plays very fast?

Everytime i play someone that plays very fast i feel an urge to play as fast as he/she does. In these games i'll be more nervous and i make more mistakes than usual. Does anyone has this same issue? And if so, how do you deal with it?

That's one reason I like to play fast, some people play much worse as a result.

Anyway, no matter how fast or slow they're playing, remember the value of their move isn't changed. To win, even in speed games, your strategy is to make good use of your time. Try to have about half your time left around move 20 or 30. If you're going slower than that, then you can speed up. But don't speed up because your opponent is playing fast.

One thing about many fast players is -- they have trouble slowing down. So you might be worried they have many minutes left... but they probably wont use them. They will continue playing at a fast pace until the game ends. So the best thing to do is just pace yourself and ignore them.

Go see a psychologist OP. It will help you with your problem. You have to stop thinking that you are an alpha male because you move fast.

I get nervous sure. It makes me feel like they know what they're doing. Which is always a threat to me because I never know what I'm doing. In life in general.

In 5-minute games, I get a bit nervous when my clock is more than 30 secs less than my opponent's.  So, yes, I'd probably be forced to make my moves before my "natural" amount of time.

In > 10 minute games, I don't get nervous because I know there's plenty of time.  In fact, if they move fast and sloppy, I become more relaxed.  Fast and deadly, oh well, I've met my match.

No, I don't care about that. If it is a long game I will take all the time I need to think my moves, if at the end of the game he ends up with 25 minutes left and I finish with 3 minutes left it won't matter. What really matters is who makes the best moves, not who moves faster (Unless it is bullet).

Oh yes definitely. Whenever I'm playing against an opponent that is rushing their moves I feel that the polite thing for me to to is to start rushing my moves as well. I always start imagining that my opponent is pressed for time.
