s/o said a laid down pawn signifies a queen. it this true ?

So I was at an otb blitz event. One of the players went to Queen a pawn and turned a rook upside down, his opponent protested and said he had to have a real Queen, the TD agreed, this player already had one Queen on the board and did not have an extra. So he went to the bin to grab a generic one and when he came back his time had expired and he lost.

and that's wrong, the TD should've gotten it. That's what happened at my OTB tournaments anyways, they were in classical though.

thats a ugly story. most TD's are dorky derelicts who have become D's cuz they cant play. remember that one saying ?

'Those who cant play ?...direct'.

...in which they're probably gonna be inept directors too !

KingCobra280

it is pretty odd for me  and I find it weird but I' fine with it

KingCobra280

So you can't call a Rook a Castle... so why is it called castling and not rooking?

The clock should have been paused to get a queen.

CastawayWill

First of all, that's not an upside-down queen, it's an upside-down rook

Most TDs that I know, only do it to get events in their area. Can't speak for outside the US, but in many places here, if someone doesn't step up to do it, you don't get local events.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

sadly it cant be decentralized.

A dead field mouse also works well, but do state it's a Queen in case your opponent mistakes it for a horse.
