Do You Generally Play Lower-Rated Players

My opponents are lower-rated players when I'm done with them

Lets assume there are only four players on chess.com with the ratings : 2500,2000,1500,1000.

Someone show me a way these four players could pair up so that "most of them" are playing lower rated players.

...queue chirping crickets...

2500 plays 1000

2000 plays 1000

1500 plays 1000

I can do maths, me.

Good maths you do too....and lateral thinking, with no set amount of games per player...nice!

As a matter of fact I've been extremely scrupulous in only playing = , about = or higher-rated players lately but I'm going to start playing in open tnmts and/or playing on team matches where I will be paired down to some extent (a few hundred pts, not several hundred if I can help it) because it isn't fair IMHO to never give lower-rated players the chance to win some rating pts from someone higher-rated (like me for instance). After all, there are higher-rated players than me willing to play me.

I suppose players who are active in open, swiss and thematic tnmts have to be willing to play down on a regular basis, but lately I've been concentrating on match games.

Most of my games come from team matches and an occasional tournament.  I currently have an open seek that linked me to 2 opponents with a similar rating, but other than that I have no control with who I play, because it is matchups that dictate the rating match up being played.

I do agree that playing higher rated players than yourself is the best way to improve.  But, to find your true rating, you should probably play both higher and lower rated players.

i just try to pick up whatever game is available in open seeks that has 1 day per move regardless of their rating.  if that's not available then i go up to 3 days per move.  i also get a lot of rematch requests and i try to accept all those except when my current number of games has become too unmanageable vs. the free time i have.  i've had interesting games against all levels of rating and i've also lost plenty against lower rated players

I guess it (the average level of your opponents) also depends on how much you like winning ;)

Pelayo_Vial

I feel the same way as you do TheColoradoSequence. The reason people play low ratings is the same reason why people cheat. Ego.

I set my seeks between my actual rating 126o and 1500. So I just keep playing stronger peolple so I can learn. Sometimes ego blinds people and stops their improvement, just because they hate more losing than love learning. I has happened to me to play a 100 point higher opponent who just plays agains low rating persons and I've beaten them easily.

Here's a movie you all might like. Have fun!

So Charlie Sheen would only play lower rated players?  That is, if he played?

That's a massive ELO performance for Mr Green, winning against Andre 3000.

RichColorado

I know that you understand that if everyone plays stronger players, then half of them are weaker players playing. It always balances out.

If everyone always try to play stonger players and the stronger player only plays stronger players, nobody would play anybody.

This thread has about as much value as the one about how to pronounce "FIDE."

What if Charlie Sheen played Einstein? Who would win?

Simple, Einstein!  Genius at work! I'm curious about what everybody else thinks!
