Hope so, can't stand Carlsen. He looks like a cross between Matt Damon and a Neanderthal and he's so effing RUDE. Not in an amusing way like Kasparov, just in a spoiiled brat way.
Do you guys think Wei Yi will beat Magnus record

Badeebadabba,
Amen, brotha!
I also can't stand Carlsen... I wanted to like him, but everything about the guy just reeks of "spoiled overprivileged unappreciative brat". Chess prodigy, millionaire without having to really earn it, arrogant and rude as HELL!
I don't care how many people you can simul blindfolded, or the fact you don't own a chessboard because you can visualize it all... if you can't be a decent human being then I have no respect or admiration for you. Magnus seems like an only SLIGHTLY less irrational version of Fischer, the other world champ that I pretty much detest.
Dug it up for you. Quote from an outside source, so it's likely true:
"There was an interview with John Nunn (English GM) recently on BBC Radio, he claimed that Magnus Carlsen is another top player who doesn't own a chess board. Hard to believe but then again does every gynecologist keep a speculum in the kitchen drawer? Mind you, I suppose most gynecologists don't practice at home."
I also personally read an online interview with Magnus where he stated that at home, he plays Chess over the internet.
Anand is another WC who apparently doesn't have a chess set at home. I imagine most of the really top level players don't need a board...

What do you mean, not having to earn it? Carlsen did work hard. His country doesn't have any great chess traditions, and yet he is world champion.
I do not think that Yi will break his record. There are other players who achieved successes at a young age like him, but still are not near as good as Carlsen. Anyway, at Yi's age, Carlsen's successes were arguably superior. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.pl?tid=55897

Praeceptormundi914,
It's just my opinion... maybe he did "earn" his fortune by some people's values and standards. I personally think he got most of it because of his celebrity status, not because of any real hard work or exchamge of real value. I know many people who have worked tirelessly their entire lives, employed dozens of people, and still can't claim 1/10 the wealth that Magnus has managed to somehow amass barely out of high school playing a board game.
Again, just my opinion... I could be wrong.

This is sadly just how the world works. At least Carlsen has his money because he is recognised as the best in the world at something, however trivial the great game of chess may be in the grand scheme of things.

of being the youngest world number 1
Magnus has that record, at age 19
Wei Yi is 17...what do you think
To go back to the OP's question (which happens to have nothing to do with Carlsen's social skills), no. The reason is simple: in two years, Carlsen will still be the world #1.

Wei Yi is a brilliant player - but it's way too crowded at the top. It isn't that easy to rise to #1, above all of the worthy players who occupy the top twenty places.
Magnus pulled a miracle. It's very unlikely that we'll see something similar at least for ten more years - unless he decides to retire (which doesn't look likely at this writing).
