Do you know the origins of Chess?

The game was introduced to southern Europe in the tenth century by the Arabs, but it is not known where exactly it was invented. It derives from Shatranj or Chatrang, which is itself the Persian version of Chaturanga from classical India. The current rules were established at the end of the 15th century. Chess is one of the most popular puzzle games in the world.

Not entirely.

The rules concerning stalemate were only finalized in the early 1800s, and the convention that White always moves first is even more recent.

If I remember right, there are medieval roots of chess in India, then China, more development in Persia, but only settled its rules in the last couple hundred years. The names of the pieces are interesting. If I remember right, the queen got its name in Europe as something that made sense culturally. But originally the queen was something more like the grand vizier.

The rule of "prise en passant" in chess was introduced by the French in the late 15th century.

The rule was officially adopted by the European chess community in the 19th century e. So, while there is no single inventor.
