Do you listen to music while playing online?

No, I don't listen to any music while playing chess (online or otherwise). I find it far too distracting.

Peace and quiet all the way for me. happy.png

@chesspunk04 - can recommend some great German punk and punk-metal crossover if you're interested happy.png

Wow, thank you for this post. I always thought listening to music would distract you or make you impulsive in your moves, but I was dead wrong. Speaking as someone with ADHD, this was the best post anyone could ever put up. Just played my first game with music, and it was awesome. Never played so aggressively or semi-accurately in my life, and I barely felt my ADHD. Thanks.

I try to but I find it pretty distracting. Helps with calculation for me but stifles my creativity and clarity so I don't listen to music during serious games.

Have you heard of Amon Düül II then? One of my favourites but definitely not when playing chess.

I don't know if I could listen to Yes. I would wan't to do my best impression of Jon then I would break into Friends of Mr. Cairo and finish up with The Mayflower. Not sure where I would fit in chess.

"multi-tasking" is a lie that people like to believe because it makes them appear more productive.

not necessarily true in the case of music. certain types can positively affect the brain and thought processes, enhance concentration, etc. trying to cook dinner or watch tv while playing chess? nah.

but some types of music have been clearly shown to enhance thought processes

Just the drums constantly playing in my head. Bat da ta ta ta da da ta ta

Ocasionally. Getting rarer.

This is not bad if you like a beat, but don't want anything loud or sharp in your ears while you're playing.

I find the picture a little... eccentric, but you'll be focusing on a chess game.

No.

I've only just started playing but I've had  'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune' (Debussy) on loop, goes so well.

I love the Epic/Trailer music genre, anything from audiomachine or two steps from hell.

I like listening to music while I play. It doesn't really change my game. I tried it on purpose because of an article I read. I had trouble with adhd growing up and the article suggested that sometimes people who suffer from it concentrate better while slightly distracted. Worth a shot i guess lol. No change though

I like to listen to classical music while playing. It helps me tune out the other things going on around me.

I like most of the stuff that originally was put out on Chess Records: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Sonny Boy Williamson II.
