do you play chess better on a board or mobile/computer?

JoeLovesCoco

hello, i was just wondering if people play better on a real board or a mobile device/computer.

is it just me because i play better online than on a real board, is it that i can see the pieces better,

anyway comment on your preference. board or device?

StefanLaege

Device is more clearly representing like diagrams in chessbooks

JoeLovesCoco

yeah, so it does have an advantage to a real board.

and i guess i've never thought of it like that, thank you

StefanLaege

On a real board the view is often focused to the centre it is easier to loose the sight of some pieces

JoeLovesCoco

is it legal in a tournament to stand up and look around the board?

pooja0608

on computer.

JoeLovesCoco

any particular reason?

StefanLaege

Yes, in a tournament it is allowed to stand up and walk around, or to watch the Position  from your opponents point ob view (due to corona restrictions nowadays)

JoeLovesCoco

that's good, i just thought you had to sit down

teju17

board. I pay more attention while playing on board than comp.

rohaanledzeppelin

computer.the from above perspective is easier for me.

JoeLovesCoco

i thought of doing that but i thought it would take to much time

C-JumpinOrange

JoeLovesCoco

teju17

yes , once I got an oppurtunity to mate in 1 my opponent when i was down 7 points if he made the tempting move. so I acted like completely lost and .......I WON!

Computer, or printed chess diagram of puzzle.  (light-green & olive board, standard chess dot com charcoal/white pieces)  Think better when I can see the whole problem compactly, so definitely not full screen.

Like others, prefer a real wooden board and wooden pieces, but my game suffers a little.

same here
