Do you prefer aggressive or defensive play?

Sometimes I get so impatient to burst my attack on the opponent that I am willing to sacrifice every piece to get there. Then I have to remember that good chess is as much about having a strong defence as well as attack. Anyone else feels the compulsion to kill everything for fear of playing a stagnant game?

Perhaps, defensive

I play defensive while developing, i don't trade my pieces if i see no advantage like gaining any material or a better position or a tempo.

In middlegame i can play aggressive when necessary. I don't hesitate to make sacrifices for long term counterplay chances. Initiative is important.. I like to be the one in the driver seat happy.png

I prefer playing well, whichever is the best option. playing passively isn't good. Only defending isn't good. It's about balance.

In hyperbullet I usually play  defensively because it’s less time consuming. Because I’m playing on app only and I’m already at a disadvantage of not able to make multiple premoves that others can make on laptops. In live 960 I do play agreesively because playing aggressively is more fun than playing defensively.

I'm more of a methodical player. I like to build up my position so I can attack and not someone that gets into wild positions. Downside is that I miss making sacrifices to gain positional advantage.

I find that I'm better at getting myself out of a tough defensive position than I am at forcing an offensive position but my defensive position is the result of not getting a good position out of the opening and not something I strive for.

Both, ill play the position thats on the board. Looking to develop with tempi usually stick to my main openings unless my opponent plays somthing weird. Alot of the time i just try an put my peices on good squares play some profelactic moves, they get impatient an blunder...
