I think that Chess Life is great for what it is.  I've written for them before, including the July 2015 cover story where I predicted a new Golden Age for American Chess.

Chess Life serves it's purpose as a federation publication quite nicely.  But ACM looks to provide top notch coverage of high level events all while offering many more in-depth instructional columns and game analysis.

If anyone would like a free pgn copy of the first issue (it's better on paper, but this will at least show you the type of content you'll be getting if you read the paper version) please go to my blog at www.ontheroadtochessmaster.com and email me.  You'll see my email address by the "contact me" on the front page.

Fair warning, the form is hit or miss, so just email me as you'll see the email address on the right side of the page.  If you use the form I might not get it for several days.

It is a beautiful magazine but I already can't keep up with all the chess material I have, so I can't justify the cost.

Why is the paper form better?  Just curious about that.  I wish I owned my paper chess books in digital form first, because of interactivity of things like Forward Chess app.

It’s printed on high quality paper. I’m old school though. So I prefer paper to digital 😊

Im wth you on that.  For me, there is no comparison between a real book/magazine, and online copy.

I enjoy the convenience of digital, but don’t get the same feel from it.

When I sit down with a board and set and a book/magazine I have to *work* my way through material.

On digital I sometimes realize I’ve been absentmindedly flipping through positions without paying attention.

Which is fine for raw game scores, but not for annotated material.
