Why is this thread even made? It’s obvious that all people deserve champion if they try hard.

If he didn't deserve to be world champion, then he wouldn't be world champion. Simple.

Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion, didn't consider the 2024 World Championship match between India's D Gukesh and China's Ding Liren to be a true World Championship. Kasparov said that Magnus Carlsen's decision not to defend his title in 2023 meant that the traditional form of the world championship had ended

According to that logic, Kasparov was never a world champion, since neither he nor Karpov beat Fischer.

Neither of the contestants should have played for the world championship... There are other stronger players

Unfortunately for you, Ding won the 2023 WCC, and Gukesh won the candidates fair and sqaure, so they were chosen because of FIDE's rules.

As per the current rules he is and deserves to be the champion even though he is not the strongest player and, obviously, not the undisputed world champion. This is, obviously, the way FIDE want´s it to be. The title, thus, doesn´t hold the same weight that it did in the old days.

I think this young chess player showed great maturity, both in general and in the decisive moments of the games for the title of world chess champion.
He fully deservedly took the title of world champion, with the special position of the youngest world chess champion ever.

If anybody in the world deserved it more right now, then how would Gukesh be the World Champion? The question makes no sense (Gukesh won the Candidates and the intense 1 vs 1 World Championship match, you cannot win the WC based on luck). You could make the argument that maybe, possibly, Magnus Carlsen could have still beaten Ding Liren and Gukesh if he put months into preparing for it, but... he didn't. Magnus Carlsen doesn't enjoy classical chess enough to put in the effort required to play classical at that level any more - and this is fair to him because he has already done everything to win in chess (he should do whatever he enjoys doing). The very fact Magnus refuses to enter shows he doesn't deserve to be the current World Champion though.

he deserves it in the sense he won against Ding, and thus earned the title of world champion.

But in my opinion hes not the true champion. He hasnt beaten Magnus. I know Magnus voluntarily left due to his own reasons and didnt defend his title, and its not fair on the other players that become champions now, but it just doesnt feel like the world champions right now are the actual world champions.

Its not Gukesh's fault, but even if you are a Gukesh fan you have to admit it doesnt feel as good as if he had done it against Magnus.

This is like saying that nobody is the real French Open tennis champion if they didn't defeat Rafael Nadal on the way grin.png

No it is not. The French Open Championships has been decided in the same way since it´s inaguration. The way the chess world champion is decided has changed significantly. To stick with your analogy the chess WC title is nowworth about the same as beeing the French Open Champion. You´´ve won a big tournament but ypu are not necessarily the best player in the world.

SarveshShelar

Of course

Biggreenfur

Yes Gukesh did win fair and square but honestly I don’t really think he would be as good as like magnus or fabi

TeamLS99

He deserves it but it doesn't hold the same weight since everyone in chess knows he is not actually the best in the world. Especially with the best player in the world not competing

I think he really deserves to be the world champion

Thats not a good comparison. When Nadal was in his peak he WAS winning it almost every year. If someone else won it without versing Nadal its because Nadal would of lost against someone else in an earlier round, meaning he didnt perform as well.
In this case Magnus isn't even PARTAKING to begin with.
