Do you think people psychological feel rushed to play faster while in check

Hey folks. I have been wondering this for quite some time now.  Recently while I was playing a game I noticed my heart raced when I was caught in a check I didn't see coming and later after I moved I also noticed that it was plain out faster than normal.  It was of course a bad move as well.  Didn't take long for me to put the two together, I've wondered about it in games before.

seems I often struggle to make sure I do at least enough calculations to make sure I don't defeat myself, but the urge to just move on and get it over with is ever present after I blunder away something important.

What I need to realize is that players of the same rank tend to make similar decisions, and usually if you stick around long enough, your opponent will probably make a similar mistake at some point.  And even if not, some positions may suggest "giving back", so the odds may stand in your favor more than what your emotional tolerance may allow.

Sorry, seems I trailed off to something else.  Anyhow, I wouldn't mind having your thoughts on either one.  Thanks in advance for any feedback.

not sure what you're asking exactly, but to answer if being checked changes my behavior? then i guess yes. no effect in correspondence, but in timed games it'll generally slow my response. my eyes will be darting all over the board looking for opponent tactics that could hurt as a result of my next move.

i'm not sure why it should change my behaviour and i've never really thought about it until you mentioned it. i suspect it shouldn't or you shouldn't allow it to make a difference to how you respond, but i guess i'm programmed to see it as a threat and then i tread more carefully?

net effect is that it slows me down. if time is pressuring me and i'm short of ideas, i'll check my opponent as often as i can to use his clock whilst i think.

but you say it makes you play quicker? are you sure of that?, or is that just perception as your heart rate is up?

either way, you should probably spend more time over the next move if checked as they are normally 'leading' moves. ie, they're normally designed to draw a particular response. on that basis, you should look for a opponent tactic and make sure your reply is best. of course, it may be too late.

Try to look for all checks/tactics/forcing moves available to your opponent before you make your move every time. It takes a while to get into the habit but once you do, you'll never be surprised like that again and you'll notice your performance improve.

Appreciate the responses, both seem on point.

A check is like a submission attempt in grappling , unless you they got it,than the answer  is obvious. It is either a set up,a stall,or designed to throw you off.lThis is my observation
