Bluth-Salvino 1962 Championship Bowling 1-0

In chess as in bowling, sometimes you can win more material (get more strikes/spares), but a blunder (miss) can blow you up.

Knight forks remind me of the 5-7-10 split.

Both are in a continuous battle to prove they are sports. It's time for a joined initiative!

But what do they have in chess that can be related to the gutter bowl??  Also if some one in chess uses a computer to help make moves, so in bowling you can have a partner with a remote control guiding the bowl to target ...

just kidding I meant the gutter ball wink.png but great response!!

Ooo- ooo! -- Great idea!  Let's petition Staff to drop the dreadful term "Blunder" in favor of the wonderfully light-hearted "Gutter Ball."

Personally, I've often shrugged and laughed a bit ruefully but with genuine gaiety after throwing an actual "gutter ball."  In contrast, the word "Blunder" has never filled me with any sense of insouciance whatsoever.

Beating a GM at chess and bowling a 300 game both take skill.

I agree.  Every time I've done either, I've received many compliments on my skills, and the compliments did seem sincere.  But of course, as an enlightened zen master, I didn't pay much attention to them.

Same for me. Every time I've done either, I've received many compliments on my skills, and the compliments did seem sincere. But of course, as an enlightened math master, I didn't pay much attention as to how many times that happened. Zero is as good as any number.

Check previous page, or the above will seem tangential.  (Note:  checking previous page may not help.)

Just some friendly advice here:  you might want to be careful about mentioning things like that in a public forum.  They kind of make you look bad.  I still respect you, of course, but I can't speak for the others.

I once bowled a 279 (yea..in 1 game)

The closest i have come to chess perfection is a game i played where i ONLY committed around 983,784 errors.

Yea...bowling is easier.

"279?"  Cool!  I took bowling in college and I did pretty well, but never got a score like that -- I know what an accomplishment that is.

(Now you see there, ghost?  Bacon just told us something that makes us respect him more.)

Chess and bowling were one floor apart at Cal. The lanes were in the basement of the Student Union building, and chess simuls would happen in the main room on the first floor, where I lost to Walter Browne (he looked like he would have beat me at bowling too).

Avatar of GhostNight

I played Walter Browne, as well years ago, and lost, but I could have put up a better game but was too nervous playing and meeting him !

The only thing chess is related to is plugging holes in a leaking Dutch dyke on a cold and rainy day minus the fun and excitement.

@Ghostnignt, the fish in your avatar appears to be from lake Malawi in East Africa.

I suspect you keep fish and have imported these as part of your private collection.
