nothing wrong with en passant. it also solves the issue of people creating passed pawns for free by moving two squares at once

En passant makes sense. Why pawns got to start moving 2 squares on their 1st turn triggering a need for the rule of en passant is what's questionable IMO.

because before they could only move one square at a time and games were always closed and too slow so it was made to speed it up
