Color doesnt matter until youre an elite level player.
Do you win more with a certain color?

Ehh... not necessarily. My W/L/D percentages in blitz with white are 76/21/3, and with black are 71/24/4. Considering that I've played about 1000 games with each color, that's a pretty significant difference.

As God'sPawn says, if you are not an elite player or it is not correspondence chess the ICCF way it shouldnt matter that much.
I think I would take Black at my level of play, it is easy for White to mishandle my openings and let me equalize (therefore giving me winning chances) or let me get better out of the opening.
But if I ever had to play correspondence chess the ICCF way or if I was an elite player I would take white 24/7

What is ICCF correspondence chess? I know the acronym, I'm just not sure how their correspondence chess differs from what is available here at chess.com

I generally garner a higher success rate in life when I present myself as a white person. I hope I answered your question.

@macer - we were talking thoughtful chess - not Blitz (troll intended)
You say what? Challenge accepted. I call CC a chess game where you have to make some single random move at random time vs random opponent on a random game using or not random help ... I see more chess in 1 min bullet game. I can assure you 1300 rated bullet players plays much better than this 3/day game.

There is a massive difference between black and white, but don't worry about that until you get to 2100.

So it is easier to win after equalizing than from the opening advantage?

New In Chess observed in its 2000 Yearbook that of the 731,740 games in its database, White scored 54.8% overall; with the two most popular opening moves, White scored 54.1% in 349,855 games beginning 1.e4, and 56.1% in 296,200 games beginning 1.d4. The main reason that 1.e4 was less effective than 1.d4 was the Sicilian Defence (1.e4 c5), which gave White only a 52.3% score in 145,996 games.
In 1946, W.F. Streeter examined the results of 5,598 games played in 45 international chess tournaments between 1851 and 1932.Streeter found that overall White scored 53.4% (W: 38.12; D: 30.56; L: 31.31). White scored 52.55% in 1851–78 (W:45.52; D: 14.07; L: 40.41), 52.77% in 1881–1914 (W: 36.89; D: 31.76; L: 31.35), and 55.47% in 1919–32 (W: 36.98; D: 36.98; L: 26.04). Streeter concluded, "It thus appears that it is becoming increasingly difficult to win with Black, but somewhat easier to draw."
Chess Engines Grand Tournament (CEGT) tests computer chess engines by playing them against each other, with time controls of forty moves in one hundred and twenty minutes per player (40/120), and also 40/20 and 40/4, and uses the results of those games to compile a rating list for each time control. At the slowest time control (40/120), White has scored 55.4% (W34.7 D41.3 L24.0) in games played among 38 of the strongest chess engines (as of May 27, 2009).
Anything else?

The fact that Black is either drawing or winning in some 60% of his games, I mean the logic behind it, is part of that IQ test you have taken for wathever reason they needed it, in days of yore.

My lifetime stats are pretty much what you would expect - a slight edge for playing White, but not much of one about 55/45
If you've played a large number of games, that's not close at all. It shows that you do better with white than with black by a statistically significant margin.
I was just looking at my statistics for correspondence chess and I notice that I have a significantly better winning rate with black than with white. I've played about 75 games total so far, and with black I have won about 75% of games and with white I have won about 55% of games. I figure some of it has to do with the fact that I have a solid opening repertoire for black that I have been perfecting, while with white I am still trying to get that down (and have been trying out some rather funky openings, such as 1. f3 2. kf2).
Does anyone else do significantly better or worse with a certain color?
