I had a cat who drank whiskey. When she'd see someone coming into a room with a glass of iced tea (same tawny-brown color) she'd come running, take a sniff and look so disappointed.

I believe the American Constitution garauntees the right of an individual to express thier loathing and contempt, whereas we in Europe are subject to laws which make such expression a criminal offence.  How insecure must we be if we need to stifle expression by decree?

The deal is, "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..." BUT this doesn't mean that libelous writing or slanderous speech are 100% safe. If one were to malign a "private person" in such a way as to cause harm, that could still be the subject of a civil suit. For "public figures" the standards to claim a wrong (tort) are much higher, since their own decision to elevate their profile and seek acclaim has led the detractors right to their doorstep. So I could say that someone is vile or gross or something vague and general. Once someone starts to engage specific accusations that are not claimed as "alleged" transgressions, you're skating on thinner and thinner ice.
