Does Komodo change its level of play based on its rating as well as rank?

I like to play Komodo 3 a lot at 2 minute, when I get frustrated playing real players at 1 minute, because I lose to time a lot when I am up material. I will also play Komodo 5 when it has a high rating (for me over 1300 bullet). I find the computer seems to play better, the higher its rating, even though the ranks (1,2,3,4,5, etc) suggest the level of play should be consistent. Perhaps it's my imagination. Does anyone know for sure?

The ratings are from playing members, so they will fluctuate based on winning and losing.

Yes I understand that part, but was wondering if the algorithms are designed to increase or decrease its level of play, as the ratings fluctuate. For instance, if I play Komodo 3 at 1100 it feels easier to beat, than if it's at 1200. I know some people use it to cheat, by dumping points on it (just before a tourney) which can give it an unrealistic rating, but with that higher rating, the computer does seem more difficult.

I don't know but my guess is that the back end engine is at a set level, for each engine, and isn't modified based on chess.com rating.

I think you are right. Probably just seeing the higher rating makes me feel the game is harder.

i Just feel the same, i thought it was my imagination. kmodo 6 with higher rating than 7, plays better than 7. i am sure of this but... if only i spotted this... then is only my crazyness.... thank you, bet it was done to not give free Points!

it must have two variables, rating(less) And rank(more weight).i felt this for so long... i have more than 1000 games with komodo. no way is the same all the time. feels soft when low, hard when high rated.

As Excalibr4 mentioned, it is probably more psychological. You see the higher rating and think it is going to play better. That usually biases your view of the position and leads you to play worse. I can't imagine it would be the case that when it gets a higher rating it plays better. That would simply mean that their ratings would all increase because they would play better and better.
If nothing else it would be much harder to code than a set difficulty and would defeat the purpose of all the AI levels, since once the rating of Komodo one passed the rating of Komodo 20 it would play better.

Maybe you are right, but when you play hundred's of times with a machine (not a human), you begin to spot some mechanics. I play sometimes 30 games in a row. Sure i get tired and blunder, but, my feeling is great variations in rating , for example 1150-1400 in rank 5-7 it SEEMS to really play like level above or bellow. Of course you may and probably are right, psychic is a strange complex puzzle, and i may being induce to feel that change, but...  yesterday at night i played about 20 games and i felt right the feeling excalibur described.

Did anyone try to challenge Komodo 25?
