Yes, it helps a lot. You become more effective at calculating variations OTB.
The problem is, it's hard. Most people don't do it, myself included, because we prefer to just spend a good time playing rather than training hard.

I'm not sure whether it helps, but it's surely a great practice to stay sharp. Furthermore, it requires great concentration so playing might help you focus better on something.
I've played many OTB blindfold games, mainly with MSC157, but it hasn't had any terribly soothing effects on my play.

Yes. I never tried visualizing the board. I think I should have atleat given it a try.
Problem is, it's very hard to actually visualise the board. On this level it's much easier to just now where the pieces are and how they interract with each other.
I find that making my opponents play blindfold has helped me a lot. I also had them gagged and bound in the trunk of my car and I have yet t lose a game.
In seriousness though, blindfold will help your visualization, but it is very hard. I have only done it once on a car ride (wasn't actually blindfolded since I was driving, but my wife called out her moves and I told her mine). I was exhausted by the end of the game.

Did you really play blindfold chess while driving?
That's just reckless. It's worse than talking on the phone.
I mean , it will improve your visualizing ability and therefore you can calculate deeper in normal games too right? Will it help to stay more focused on the game? Waiting for opinions from blindfold players.
