Does registering with FIDE international register me with US Chess?

I just registered with FIDE international Chess Federation, but I haven't heard back from them.

Now I realize there's the US Chess Federation -- (I'm a resident of the USA) -- do I need to register with them as well?  Or is my registration with FIDE the same thing?

You just started playing chess. Registering with either isn't necessary unless you want to play over the board tournaments.

FIDE and the USCF are totally separate entities.

If you want to play over the board tournaments in the US, 99% are run through the USCF.

That's what I wanted to know, thanks!

You must be registered with USCF or a NCF before you can obtain a FIDE ID

If you join their Online Arena, that isn't required as far as I'm aware.
