This wasn't the exact one, but i found this one:

Only one I disagree with is:

Beth losing all games to Benny at speed chess but them beating him and other top players SIMULTANEOUSLY shortly after, on the next episode.

I happen to think she threw those games.

I would understand why people assumed the show called "Queen's Gambit" would be ALL about chess. But you see, chess players are only a small population and some of them might not have access to Netflix or even a device. They needed more than just chess players to watch it, so they added extra elements to it. That's why a lot of non-chess players and celebs are watching it now.

You are overlooking that the series is based on, and pretty faithful to, a novel. It was never intended to be all about chess, nor were the non-chess parts added on.

She didn't have a lot of money and lost $5 (figure $25 in today's money) for each game so it was unlikely she was deliberately throwing them.  In the later episode she had been off drugs for a little while (a hint of what she could do when sober).

You do know the story is fictitious.

Most do.  Debating fiction can be interesting.  Think Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, many TV dramas or comedies, etc.  Trying to figure out how to make something seem logical can be an entertaining challenge.

Oh yeah!! I forgot it was based on a book. LOL! Well, let's just say my theory would have been correct IF there was no book.

The characters were “modeled” after real people from the time period. Beth was Audrey Hepburn personified.

Just making sure people understand that non of this is real. It is a politically correct message of the day.

I have the feeling most believe it is based on a true story.

You should give most people more credit. They may not be chess players- but they certainly know their history. We see the usual trolling comments where if believed that impression gets made. But most everybody knows differently.

Do you really believe most people know their chrss history? You do not hang around normal people.

Politically correct message of the day...as found in the novel from the early 80s.

Avatar of NilsIngemar

Yes, it is the same politically correct message as in the 80's. Women and men are no different and that the only reason why women are not represented in certain fields is due to sexist social norms.  This message has been being pushed for decades and it went from an obscure book in the 80's to a well known movie today.

Ah, you are one of those. Blocked.

The novel by Walter Tevis  is not about sexism norms. It is about a young person overcoming tremendous odds and succeeding in life ... despite early tragedy and hardships. Sexism is secondary - it is found everywhere as it is in chess.
The novel uses chess as the medium to tell it’s story. The Chess is secondary. She encountered sexism along the way - but it is not the the primary message being made.

The book is not obscure in the least. It’s rights were bought soon after publication. Tevis also wrote “The Hustler” and “The Color of Money” - two other Movies of the highest quality and acclaim making top 10 lists everywhere.

They know history- and know no such person existed except by the name of Fischer. If the story were real - everybody would know about - remember. If they are too young - it would be a matter of legend- known to every school boy/ girl. If people weren’t sure - they easily research wiki and learn it’s fiction. No - anybody who thinks it’s real soon discovers otherwise. The statement “most people think it’s real” is quite absurd.
