@Bad fish. How long did it take you to type all those yeses?

He copied and pasted it so probably less than a minute. Good game though, lots of juicy tactics. Thanks for sharing.

Tactics Trainer can also show you HOW TO DETECT tactics that may be forming again you. I.E. forks, pins etc.

You don't even know how to quote properly. I'm too upset to argue with your type just now. Please just leave me be. Please.

I accept your surrender. Just remember, you brought this fight to my doorstep, not the other way around. Your kind tends to use aggressive bullying tactics, like threats and name calling, all the time. Sadly, this tends to work in modern society.

However, you've come to the wrong shop with your intellectual BB's. You're welcome to try again with better ammunition when your frail ego has recovered.

This is deeply ironic. And you have quickly lowered this thread into ad hominem attacks and general trolling. And I've noted you using a number of terms the average Brit probably wouldn't employ, like phony and high school. Perhaps you are just catering to the majority demographic on this site but your claim to be a Brit seems suspicious. Rather like the rest of you, actually.

2Q1C do you play over games on a real chessboard? How else are you going to get the square coordinates burned into your brain like a real chessplayer?

I know players can get really good with internet tools but if you ask me for advice I'm going with the Old School approach. Simply play over complete games on a physical set. I don't know of anything better.

Ideally it should be a wooden set and you should have a cigar in your hand and a glass of cognac at your elbow. Now you've got some real CHESS.

Eventually you'll need to work on an opening repertoire and you'll learn a lot in that process. And btw my openings still suck.

@Pikelemin and Wuehler:

Thanks for answering. I guess there is no server where you can practice motifs without being a paying member?

I am pretty sure he is a Brit as he was going on the other night about how his ISP (bt) was crap, and that he was thinking of moving to the post office but it looks like he got most of his education online.

That, I don't know. While tactics training is part of my daily routine, I don't use any online tactics trainers for that purpose.

You know what's REALLY ironic? I just heard Donny Osmond on the radio singing "Puppy Love". True story.

You train on tactics daily?
But not online?
What, the Polgar book?

You're just not impressed with TT here?

I'm just a medium skill player.  I've played a lot of Tactics Trainer, and I have seen in some of my games (I usually play 5/0 or 2/1) where I've been able to recognize in a position an exact same tactic that was in TT.  There are many aspects to chess, such as openings, positional play, strategic development, etc. that this doesn't help with, but I know it's helped my level of play very much and I've won some games because of it.

"High School" is OK - for example, I went to Cowes High School. "Junior High" is very American though - I don't think we have junior high schools (yet) in the UK. Correct me if I'm wrong

Anyone from the UK who uses Americanisms is real dumb IMO. Smile

But 2Q1C has a good sense of humour though so he can be forgiven this.

Where?

Avatar of Optimissed

We do have high schools but certainly not junior highs, that I'm aware of. What would they be? Phony schools, I guess.

Essex explains it all. My wife wanted to be an essex girl. Not permanently, though.

Whereabouts in Essex?

He can be quite amusing, but he does go off on his tirades frequently.

The TT makes me familiar with tactical patterns. I have played games in which I had a lost position but won the game because I was able to find a good tactic. TT gives you practice in finding tactics and is very good for beginners and intermediate players.
