DONE WITH ONLINE CHESS (RANT)

Already had a rant lined up last night, typed for so long that there was suspicious activity and ended up deleting my entire statement so this is all I will say.

Chess is NOT for beginners and SUCKS online, nothing but people who play cheesily and try to play the wayward queen gambit. I also hate the ELO system and think there is too many chess players to even ATTEMPT getting an ELO above 300 due to everyone's better general knowledge of the game.

I have dedicated 3 crap months of my life to studying and playing this game, with my highest ELO being 226 (600+ on Lichess) and think I would just prefer playing over the board. I can't even log on here to play a decent game of chess without someone trying to play a stupid opening or not even playing in a methodical way and it genuinely upsets me to no end, making me have no desire to play unless physically over the board. I have even studied ways to stop these openings and even then, it makes me upset just seeing them play it. Chess is a waste of time and think I will stick to just playing over the board. Considering I have already beat all of my friends and father at least multiple times in the game, that alone makes me happy and I now have nothing else to prove.

I honestly hit my limit too when I found out another 100-200 ELO player I played against was actually cheating! What is even the point when the NOOBS are cheating along with maybe even some of the greater 400-1000 ELO players?? to me it is all a huge waste of time unless you are using computers to study or help you in this case. It also made me realize I think I would find better and happier use of my time somewhere such as a Chess club or playing over the board with friends or family...

I hate online chess, how popular it has gotten since 2020 and don't think it is a game where people truly improve, but one where people suffer, constantly and endlessly, just to get the same old results in the end, and try to win by using crap tactics and easy wins with the help of Stockfish and Youtube. Feel free to analyze my games, I don't care at all or about the game anymore. I feel if Chess hadn't gotten so popular, we wouldn't be facing this issue where people aren't able to be recognized, grow and improve in the chess world.

UPDATE: Played a couple blitz games to try and get some quick wins... ended up resigning each one and don't care, might find a way to get my Chess.com account banned...

UPDATE OF AN UPDATE: Offically going into extreme tilt mode, going to drain ELO

Sincerely,

Rock

Hi, I am sorry that you had this bad experience with chess. Maybe you aren't designed for chess. This is completely understandable. But 3 months is far not enough. But if you want to improve, try to learn basic tactical patterns by doing puzzles (on Lichess, it's free there), and check that your move does not hang a piece or you don't get checkmated. Do not learn openings, just play 1. e4, at your level, openings don't count.

Hey Fetoxo and I already taken a total week off just to complete the entire "Learn Chess" course on Lichess and as I did play better within that timeframe about a week to two weeks ago, other people have just outplayed me and made me have no desire to want to play, as their openings are cooked. I am just emotionally done with Chess and hate the state of the game, and the people who play it.

To add to this, I also do my puzzles daily and even then, still suck and show no improvement in rating, whats the point if there is no improvement and I am getting no enjoyment?? I used to get enjoyment and checkmates felt good but not anymore, getting checkmates now feel like a chore instead of looking at them like fun so....

If you don't enjoy online chess then don't play it. This is my final advice. You cannot get better at something if you don't like it.

Couldn't have said it better myself, how do people waste their lives on this crap???

Chess is like video games. it's only fun if you're really good at it.

For those who don't want to read a super long passage, i used AI to summarize it and then i humanized it to make it sound better (Yes I know I used AI but I was transparent about it so it is okay):

The writer laments online chess, which they call inappropriate for beginners and with poor playing manners. They loathe the ELO system, where it is impossible to achieve a decent rating due to too many players having better knowledge. Having played for three months, they like playing on the board and are enraged by gaudy moves and cheating by low ratings players. They believe that online chess promotes suffering rather than improvement and complain about its popularity since 2020. The author is thinking of banning their Chess.com account after dropping several blitz games.

I hope that helps and tbh i didnt even read the passage.

Join a club.

Play against your club-mates instead of against random people.

You soon learn which ones play straight and which ones rely on cheesy tricks.

Average 200 elo post “I’m mad because my opponent isn’t playing the 3 moves of theory I learned instead of doing a puzzle and learning how to only hang 20 points of material instead of 40. Now I’m going to go play my 2000 rated friend otb and win bc this site is rigged”

Hey Blueemu and I would've by now and there are many around my local town its just I don't drive, my dad works all the time and my mom doesn't drive and I would do an online club but prefer social and physical interaction, also as it stands, in terms of online chess, I genuinely hate it with a passion. It's so easy for someone to pull up a youtube video or stockfish and just go along a stupid "script" if you will, for example if they are white and push Pawn E4, you respond back with Pawn E5 and so on. I don't believe EVERYONE does this but I have a feeling some that are casuals and have no hope when they play do. I can happily admit I have played about 400-500 games of chess without the use of stockfish or a youtube video telling me how to play if my opponent responds with a certain piece. just garbage to me...

By no means I have said the site is rigged but I wouldn't be suprised if casuals would be using the help of stockfish or a youtube vid by their side. Hell, I might just be paranoid but either way, but I still stand on what I said. Also none of my friends are rated 2000, mainly 200-400 at max...

If it's all about ratings, and winning and losing, most who play chess, including me, should find a new hobby.

I agree, almost broke down over this stupid crap... Feels like I wasted 3 months of my life just to be right where I was at... feels like a waste of life and I just don't know what to do.... tired of trying to prove myself all the time... :/
