Doomed to play Chess on the Internet only.

Locally we have a number of shift workers and the organisers are very understanding and reschedule games as much as possible. Players can all keep in touch via e-mails and mobile phones. While playing OTB is great fun, the convenience of on-line chess makes it a winner for me.

I paid to get rid of the advertisements.

How does that relate to that you are doomed?

Why don't you come to the east and we'll play a few dozen games :)

If I went east, I'd end up in the ocean.

you can play OTB - get yourself a book of games by your favorite GM and play over a game-cover up his moves-study the position and try to figure out what move he would make- then look at his (her) move and try to find out why he made that move.

Dude, ur exuses dont make sense. Wake up in the afternoon, take ur chess board with u, go to a nice crowded cafee, sit in a table, set ur chess board, and wait until someone shows interest. then u can ask them if they wanna play a game with u. i know a cafe in london where ppl meet after work everyday at 5pm to play games with each other. i used to sit there drink my cappucino and watch their games. i never played with them because i like the computer chess u see

Unfortunately there is no such chess café close to where I live. I've tried once to sit in a park on a beautiful summer day with a chess set but people were passing by not bothering with me at all. This was awkward and I am a shy person by nature. I've since given up attempting to go fishing for opponents.

This is very much something I like to do, recreating GM games on my chess board. I've printed many games from chessbase and on lunchbreak - when coworkers are playing with their smartphones - I prefer to play with my portable chess set. Smile

I'm a shift worker, there's no local chess club and the nearest tournaments are between 4 and 24 hour drives from me. When I used to travel for OTB events, I loved them. But I just play online now, can play one or many games of any time control, or tournaments, it suits my chess needs perfectly fine.

@ The AussiePawnster. But you don't play here, so where do you play?

Avatar of TyroLoco

Don't bother asking, the site admins won't let him answer ;-).

Times have changed. There are whole threads now about lichess, fics and icc and wether they are better or worse than chesscom.

Maybe if you weren't such an introvert, you'd be able to find other like-minded people to play with in real life. Like say at the local library, maybe???

I very rarely play chess over-the-board. I work fulltime as a programmer so chess online is much more of an ideal form. Frankly, I enjoy it for what it is. I have friends who play far more serious at a professional calibur and the culture difference between our methodologies are almost nonexistent.

Yeah, the truth is, I'm only 14 and my parents won't let me go out and search for a random player. So what should I do? Beg my dad for one last game??? So thats why I came to chess.com. And an added bonus! I get to play Bullet chess :) But I'm still beter playing with the board....
