Draw Offers

       I have just finished an online game where I ended up with a knight and pawn against my opponent's lone pawn. The opposition's King was attacking my pawn and I was not in a position to defend it. Similarly, I was attacking his last pawn and he could not defend it.

        I offered a draw, knowing that the position was about to be declared "insufficient material" when the two pawns were gone. The offer was not taken and my opponent took my pawn and I took his. Game over.

        I know that the game was not extended very long unnecessarily, but what the hell was the point in not taking the draw? Is this not taking playing on to the bitter end to ridiculous lengths?

People are weird like that.
