Draws / Ratings

If you have a higher rating than your opponent and the game is a draw does your rating go down and theirs goes up? or do both ratings go down because it's a draw? How does the ratings work when a game is drawn? Does it matter who offered and who excepted?

On the right side of the page, under the "name" of the game click on the Details tab, and right next to the Rated text is a link that says show rating adjustment. Click that and it will show how many points you will go up or down depending if you win, lose, or draw. Usually, it is if your opponent is lower rated, you lose points, if you are close to rating either 0 or gain/lose a little depending on their rating, and gain points if they are higher rated.

Thank you for your response. I see what your saying, and your explanation was perfect.

It doesn't matter who offers it.  Yes, the lower player's rating goes up if there is enough difference between the two.  The higher player loses points also.

Indeed - if you are much higher rated than your opponent and you agree to a draw - you still stand to loose more rating points than your opponent. The fact that they drew you(a higher rated player) is beign rewarded by the higher point change.

My philosophy about draws is this: If you are rated under 1600, fight on! Go for the win. Unless it is clearly a draw and it is unavoidable and both sides know it(but often players rated under 1600 wont know it and it only takes one to keep the game going longer than it should) If my oppoent offers me a draw when I am clearly loosing, I take it!
