I believe in this tendency too but have no source to submit. With the help of a database, it would be rather easy to confirm/infirm. For the sake of an easy search, I'd recommend to base the definition of "top level" on elo rating, e.g. over 2700 FIDE Elo.
Draws at the top level
Makes sense.
The fairly recent dawn of digitally documenting games has literally changed the game.
One can study several hundreds of games in a very short period of time nowadays which is probably why the draw rate is gradually increasing.

A very good point!
Defensive technique just keeps getting better and better! It even has "trickled down" to the lower amateur levels somewhat.
I am not saying it isnt true, it just seems strange to me that everyone claims the draw rate is going up and it seems there is no data collected on it. People just assert it as fact haha
Also claiming a single championship match as proof doesnt make sense, both because of the sample size and the draw rate in other championship matches has also been quite high
I often see in articles writers, chess players, and others claim that the draw rate at the top level of chess keeps increasing. I am curious if there is any evidence for this, since I never see any sources cited. Perhaps this increase draw rate is more a myth than anything else. Or at least if it is true it should be cited much better.
Also by top level they rarely specify if they mean top 10, top 50, top 100.
