I read about this sort of bullying behaviour on another site.  Are you chess.com thugs?

I think you mean the infamous Royal Spam Society! I read about them on an Icelandic website.

could we all please just calm down and stop derailing the discussion??

My intention was for this to try and answer my questions, but all that happens is that trolls derail my thread with all sorts of slanderous remarks, and others are arguing and making it worse!! Please, can at least one person here be on topic?

There is no topic.

I am curious to know how much chess.com is moderated, and what the specific purpose of the site is. One opinion I have heard is that it is a site strictly for chess. However, I am inclined to disagree with that, for several reasons. Firstly, chess.com links to social media sites like facebook. Secondly, there is a large forum system set up, with off-topic and general discussion being by far the main forums. Additionally, the very structure favors a large, open, user base, although premium membership can be purchased for perks. Going back to the second reason, we hit upon the point of moderation again. I have heard of accounts being closed just for mentioning various topics, such as other chess sites, or David's departure, as well as for sharing links to websites (such as http://livingrevolution.co/2013/08/06/why-i-quit-my-dream-job/ , the comments of which have been where I heard many opinions about these matters) . I am curious to know the opinions of members of chess.com on this matter, and would appreciate help understanding this. Thank you!

It makes me wonder, what benefit to these people derive from so vigorously attacking this particular topic?

Something has obviously moved them to such rancor.  Why do they care?  What motivates them?

Replaced the Pulp Fiction.

Who are you trying to impress ?

any more dumb questions ?

Wow! As soon as pulpfiction left, KaraLeBeouf appeared. I wonder if there are only like 20 or 30 real people who post in the forums and the rest of them are just one person? Totally twilight zone stuffSurprised

KaraLeBeouf and kco blocked

I warned not to derail the thread, and I'm sorry but if people refuse to stop trolling they will be blocked.

To the OP; What do you want to know??  If I give you the benifit of the doubt, in that you are new here; will you give me the benifit, that my answers will be serious and true??

Avatar of TheLegoBanana

Ok. Thank you ronald :)

Perhaps the better way to put it is that I've heard from many people, many unreputable, some very bad things about chess.com and its staff. As I wish to learn more about this, and don't exactly trust these sources, I want to know from members of chess.com if these claims hold any water.

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

By your own admission, any claim from unreputable people will not give you a clear picture of anything.  Do you want an overview of the forums?

Avatar of trysts

Why do you want to get involved in that, Lego?

Avatar of TheLegoBanana

ronald, i think so

trysts, I don't particularly want to get involved, I'm just really curious, and also want to know if I should believe these people. As a relatively serious chess player (not as close to master strength as I would like, though), it is hard for me not to hear all sorts of things about chess.com, and this could impact my future decisions to become a regular member, or avoid the site

Avatar of DrSpudnik

Just where does one hear "all sorts of things" about chess.com aside from that craptastic blog contrivance?

Avatar of trysts

Whatever happens behind-the-scenes with the staff has never had an effect on me as a member of this website, and I've been here nearly five years. So, I don't know how it could have an effect on your choice to play chess and share your thoughts in the forums?

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

Its like living in a city. Some places are very nice. But some alleys are not to friendly. If your not doing drugs, and crime; then your never in those alleys. If your serious about chess; spend a couple of dollars for a month and try it. Of ALL your chess friends; your only hearing bad things about chess.com?? Read the terms of service. Play honestly, and post properly. Most people who have gotten banned have done so because of repeaded offences. The police can't be everywhere. Its like terrorism. If you see something wrong; say something!
